Meet Munro Crane
Former Marine. Extreme Kayaker. Private Detective.
After a severe injury leads to the end of his army career, lifelong marine, Munro Crane struggles to adapt to civilian life. In order to survive, he becomes a private investigator, not only for private clients but also for the FBI (off the books, of course). And in order to compensate for the lack of excitement, he takes up extreme kayaking. Living on the banks of the Little White Salmon River in Washington means he had world class grade V rapids right on his doorstep. It would be a crime not to use it.
A chance meeting with Kaz Erkel, the man who saved his life in Afghanistan, leads to an unexpected pro bono case. Kaz wants Crane to spy on his wife, a beautiful but unhappy woman, who he suspects is having an affair. As his surveillance escalates, Crane realizes she’s not doing anything of the kind, but what she’s up to is far more sinister and mysterious. When things turn deadly, Crane has to choose between his loyalty and the fight for justice.

Crane’s first case turns deadly…
A chance meeting with the man who saved his life in Afghanistan five years ago sends Private Investigator, Munro Crane, on a seemingly mundane mission – to spy on his client’s beautiful wife.
It soon becomes clear that Sarah is up to something, but it’s not what her husband thinks. Why does she disappear for hours on end? Where does she go? Is she really having an affair, or is it something altogether more sinister?
As Crane uncovers the reason for Sarah’s suspicious behavior, he’s plunged into a confusing world of manipulation and betrayal. When things turn deadly, he’s forced to question his loyalty and how far he’ll go in pursuit of the truth.
Undercurrent is the first book in the P.I. Munro Crane romantic thriller series. If you like fast-paced adventure, intriguing mystery, gripping suspense and a liberal dose of sizzling romance, then you’ll love this first installment in Louise Rose-Innes’ page-turning series.
The Little White Salmon River is a tributary of the Columbia River in the U.S. state of Washington. There’s a four-mile stretch of rapids in a steep canyon between the Cook–Underwood Road bridge and Drano Lake that whitewater kayakers run. It’s a dangerous, adrenaline-pumping ride rated Class V (extremely difficult) on the International Scale of River Difficulty. The river has been the scene of two kayaking deaths since this stretch was first run in the 1990s. This YouTube video of Rush Sturges and Steve Fisher published by River Roots shows exactly what Munro Crane gets up to on the Little White Salmon. Follow along on one of his extreme kayaking sessions…
The idea for Munro Crane came when I thought about the type of person who’d be crazy enough to run these rapids – someone who had no fear, who loved the adrenalin rush, who knew what it was like to be close to death. It was natural to choose an ex-Marine, a man who has put his life on the line for his country more times than he can remember, who misses the excitement of combat and needs something extra to make him feel alive.
Munro Crane was in the recon battalion, known as the eyes and ears of the Marine Division. They provide ground and amphibious reconnaissance and surveillance support. My hero, Munro Crane was ambushed in Afghanistan during his last tour, which is when he got injured and had to be discharged from the armed forces, much to his dismay. The army was what gave his life meaning, what he lived for. He loved every aspect of it – so adjusting to life outside the military is something that he’s still getting used to.
The Recon Marine creed perfectly sums up Munro Crane.
THE RECON CREED
Realizing it is my choice and my choice alone
to be a Reconnaissance Marine,
I accept all challenges involved with this profession.
Forever shall I strive to maintain the tremendous reputation
of those who went before me.
Exceeding beyond the limitations
set down by others shall be my goal.
Sacrificing personal comforts and dedicating myself
to the completion of the reconnaissance mission shall be my life.
Physical fitness, mental attitude, and high ethics —
The title of Recon Marine is my honor.
Conquering all obstacles, both large and small,
I shall never quit.
To quit, to surrender, to give up is to fail.
To be a Recon Marine is to surpass failure;
To overcome, to adapt and to do whatever it takes
to complete the mission.
On the battlefield, as in all areas of life,
I shall stand tall above the competition.
Through professional pride, integrity, and teamwork,
I shall be the example
for all Marines to emulate.
Never shall I forget the principles
I accepted to become a Recon Marine.
Honor, Perseverance, Spirit and Heart.
A Recon Marine can speak without saying a word
and achieve what others can only imagine.
